Professor Debu Chaudhuri's concert in Austin - May 29th, 2001

"Professor Chaudhuri has been performing for more than 45 years, and is one of the greatest sitar maestros of India. Besides teaching at the University of Delhi, Professor Chaudhuri is currently Dean of the Colleges of Gandharva Veda at Maharishi Vedic University in Holland, U.S.A., and India, and is Visiting Professor at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa, U.S.A. Professor Chaudhuri is the author of two books on music and has published many papers world-wide.
Mr. Burman is an accomplished tabla player, and his performances are marked with spontaneous innovation and tonal purity even when he is delivering complex rhythmic patterns at dazzling speeds. His repertoire is vast and includes both commonly and rarely played rhythms. He began studying tabla at the age of six with Pandit Shyamal Bose of Calcutta, one of India's distinguished tabla maestros. Recently Sandip has collaborated and toured with Bella Fleck. He has also played with jazz legends Jack DeJohnette and John Scofield in addition to Glen Valez, Howard Levy, Paul McCandless, Victor Wooten and many others."
