The family has made musical instruments for more than three generations. Originally from the sacred city of Benares, The family set up in business in Calcutta 25 years ago.

Mangla Prasad Sharma's highest specialization lies in making very sophisticated Sitars, but also makes Surbahar, Tanpura and Veena.

The firm maintains and makes instruments for, among many others, Ustad Ashad Ali and his students, Ustad Imrat Khan, Pandit Khartick Kumar, Pandit Naladro Kumar as well as Sri Indrajit Banerjee and his students.
Mangla Prasad Sharma also works with, overhauling and at times completely rebuilding, the instruments of Professor Manalil Nag, Pandit Debu Chaudhuri and Professor Shyamil Chaterjee.

Among the foremost specialization that has made Mangla Prasad Sharma so highly rated and much preferred in the Indian music community is the extraordinary ability for his sitars to routinely achieve exceptional gliding ability in meend. This is delivered through careful study of the relationship between the neck and the body of the instrument. Typically their sitars are the only ones to be able to routinely achieve over five notes of glide, even when tuned in D.

Prasada is, himself, a trained classical musician and springs from a whole family line of musicians. He therfore has a very clear understanding and indentification with the needs of musicians as well as bringing his playing experience to his instrument making.

Mangla Prasad Sharma's instruments are of professional concert quality at all grades. He does not make or sell "student" instruments.
