I shall need to know your fingertip size (index finger, right hand) in order to send the correct size mezrabs (picks). Please specify small, medium, or large. Most people don't bother with this but it is important that the mezrab fits you properly in order to be able to play the instrument properly. Note: some people think that a beginner is fine with a cheap instrument of inferior quality but this has caused many beginners to give up because the instrument discouraged them. In India, the teacher will usually personally select a new student's instrument because it is understood that beginning on anything other than a good instrument is a big handicap. A really cheap instrument (we don't sell these) also poses a difficulty for any teacher's ears and sense of patience!

It is for these reasons that I offer this beginner's package which includes a premium student quality sitar with the needed accessories and a tutorial book, showing how to hold the sitar, instrument maintenance, tunings, and many other things a beginner needs to know about sitar.

It is my feeling that beginners need all the help they can get - I remember, in 1972, my first sitar and the difficulties I had with it as it was a difficult-to-play poor-quality, no-name instrument. I almost gave up! What also took me so long was having to find information bit-by-bit by asking questions here, there and everywhere. Much if this is explained in the tutorial book included with this sitar.
This package makes starting to play sitar much easier and more encouraging!

We also recommend the Ashwin Batish Video "Introduction to sitar", a really fast-track way to learn sitar.
